After what felt like nonstop delays earlier in the build, this phase moved quickly—almost too quickly. Installing insulation and drywall was one of those moments where everything started to come together at once, and suddenly the house felt less like a construction site and more like an actual home.
We also added something during this stage that many people don’t think about when building: a fire sprinkler system.
Insulation: What You Don’t See Matters
Insulation might not be the most exciting part of a home build, but it plays a huge role in comfort and long-term costs. There are different types of insulation depending on where it’s being installed walls, ceilings, and attic spaces all have different needs.
For our attic, we chose blown-in insulation. This option helped us save on heating and cooling costs and provided better coverage in areas that are harder to reach. While you don’t get to see insulation once drywall is up, knowing it was done properly gave us peace of mind moving forward.

Fire Sprinkler System – Noel’s Fire Protection LLC
During this stage, we also had a residential fire sprinkler system installed by Noel’s Fire Protection LLC out of Williamsport, MD.

This system includes a large tank located in the basement and is designed so that only one sprinkler activates at a time—specifically in the room where the fire starts. When triggered, it releases a powerful flush of water before flashover can occur, helping stop the fire early rather than flooding the entire house.

One of my favorite details is how subtle the sprinklers are. They’re round, flat white disks that sit flush with the ceiling, blending in seamlessly. Most people wouldn’t even notice them unless they were pointed out.
Adding this system was an extra step, but it felt like a smart investment in safety and peace of mind.

Why We Chose a Fire Sprinkler System
For us, it came down to safety and peace of mind. A residential fire sprinkler system reacts faster than the fire department ever could, releasing a powerful burst of water in the exact room where a fire starts—often before flashover occurs. We loved that only one sprinkler activates, minimizing damage while maximizing protection. The fact that the sprinklers blend seamlessly into the ceiling was just a bonus.
Drywall: When It Finally Feels Real
Once insulation and systems were complete, drywall went up quickly. This is one of the most exciting stages because rooms suddenly have shape, walls feel solid, and everything starts to look real.
Walking through the house after drywall was installed felt completely different. The echoes were gone, the layout made sense, and for the first time, it truly felt like our home.

Drywall cleanup wasn’t in the plans—but neither was passing up a chance to show off some hard-earned muscles.
What’s Next
With insulation and drywall complete, we’re moving into interior finishes, where the design choices really start to show—trim, flooring, fixtures, and all the details I’ve been waiting for.
The end is starting to feel closer.
